“When I start a painting I don’t know where it will lead and what the visual outcome will be. It is an experiment which may be scary or may be gratifying. I explore personal observations and refer to forms seen in nature, places I know well or not, maps, cities, artifacts found, pop culture, photos I take, geography, trips, and land/water mass. Maybe what the world feels like that day becomes part of the mix. I explore color and various surface applications of paint such as transparency and density, using oils or acrylics. I also use direct observation and sketching while hiking or in the garden to feed and inspire my work.”
Sigrid Trumpy received her BFA from Maryland Institute College of Art in painting - where she studied with Raoul Middleman and Peter Hooven - and her MFA from Pratt Institute in printmaking, studying with Walter Rogalski, Clare Romano and George McNeil.
Sigrid is currently pursuing her artwork while freelance curating. She was an Artist in Residence at Maryland Hall from 2018 - 20.
