  • A Northern Virginia native, Marc began drawing and painting at an early age, eventually earning a BA in Graphic Design at James Madison University. He then became the Art Director for Navy Federal Credit Union headquarters in Vienna Va. While with Navy Federal, he began painting as an illustrator and subsequently moved to New York City to pursue illustration. He then moved on from illustration and design and began fine art painting full-time while living in Chelsea and Chinatown. He has worked in museums and galleries for the past 30 years in Manhattan, Queens, the New York suburbs and in Washington DC.

Marc now lives just west of Annapolis and has returned to landscape painting after pursuing more abstract and text driven art for decades. The return to landscape was precipitated by a break in painting, and a fulfillment of a personal promise to paint from the photos he has been taking for the past twenty years.

Marc’s early landscape paintings were done entirely en plein air, even climbing to the top of Manhattan skyscrapers in the 90s, carrying his easel and canvases up the elevators, outdoor stairways and even a few vertical ladders to reach the topmost view. This approach became unsustainable in the city and he then began working from photographs in his studio, first in Chelsea and then East on Canal Street in Chinatown.

His latest landscape subject matter has been the streets of Annapolis Md, the Md/Va Eastern Shore and Chincoteague Island Va. Also included are paintings from Utah, Maine, West Virginia, Italy and California, anywhere his travels take him.

“My main inspiration is the clash of light and shadow, color and form, the simple basics of any good artwork. I work to balance abstraction and representation, the paintings simple in means and application. Shadows and power lines separate and slice up the picture plane and the colors ring out because that's what I see, the landscape is never drab to my eyes, it is always glowing.”
